Contemporary period drama in Bollywood has largely been about the looks of the lead casts and little about the historical facts. More often than not, the movies based on historical legends have gained fame because of the glamorous and royal look of the characters and has rarely given an insight on historical facts. Never mind, if the historians must raise their doubts over the authenticity of the facts these movies have captured the fancy of the audience who look forward to the majestic makeover of their favourite stars.
Deepika Padukone’s look as Mastani in ‘Mastani Deewani’, released few days ago has become the talk of the town, as the video was released online. The fusion-look of Mastani, the half Muslim and half Maratha avatar has been tastefully designed by Anju Modi.
Based on the historical books on Maratha clothing, Modi dressed Ranveer Singh who plays Peshwa ruler Bajirao and Priyanka Chopra who plays Maratha queen Kashibai.
However, to dress up Deepika, Modi tried to get more experimental and gave her a fusion look. Deepika’s jewelleries and outfits derived from the moghul era got a dash of contemporary twist.
